About
In her more than 50 years as an artist, Nichol has managed to hone a child like voice with the intentional maturity of a well studied, well lived soul. The originality of her work lies in the visual language of life's many imperceptible dichotomies, witnessed as cheery coloring book pages. The little yellow house, serene and pastoral as "art," hides the life that worked so hard to find solace in the failures that brought its inhabitants there. The happy umbrellas at a bus stop fail to share the desperation and fatigue of their owners and the gaping disparities that define their lives through no fault of their own. Nichol's work forces us to question not only what is art, itself, but is it acceptable to witness something that brings us so much joy while ignoring the devastating stories of human cost behind its creation.

"NichoL is the Betty White of the art world."
"She's wholesomely edgy all while quietly present. She's been around for a long time, just doing her thing without understanding a corner of the art world's growing appreciation for her contributions. She's warm. She's whimsical. She's humbly authentic. We can't seem to get enough of her and her work!"

"NichoL is a little bit twisted and a little bit innocent. Not completely either. This is part of the originality and authenticity of her work."

Pallets as Art
"All painters have some form of a painter's pallet. How it is used and what form that pallet takes is as unique as each artist themselves. I have always used recycled polystyrene meat trays that our grocery meat purchases come in as my painting pallets. These pallets come from a place of scarcity and repurpose."
